**Description:** The Philippi Horticultural Area (PHA) in Southern Cape Town provides more than 50% of the Cape Towns fresh produce. In addition, it is located over the Cape Flats Aquifer that has the potential to service more than one third of Cape Towns drinking water needs. This is particularly important in light of recent drought conditions affecting the city. Development in the PHA, especially with surface hardening, could have significant effects on the food and water security for Cape Town. The aim of this study was to test four machine learning algorithms using the Semi-automatic and Dzetsaka Plugins in QGIS and establish the best one to use for change detection studies in the area.

On Friday, 30th July 2021 we will be holding our monthly QGIS Open Day! What is a QGIS Open Day you may be wondering to yourself? It is an initiative to replace the wonderful community meetups we used to hold every six months when times were different. Like our in-person meetings, the event is organised on the principle of self-organisation and community participation.
