**Description:**
Map projections are almost always defined as projections onto a plane, not onto a cone or cylinder as most materials describe them. QGIS supports many vector and raster file formats as input, offers excellent map design capabilities, and provides access to a wealth of freely available data that covers the entire Earth. With the help of QGIS, we can easily create print layouts for many projections, enabling us to teach map projection theory more accurately and even create our own "globes" for classrooms worldwide.
## Topic: Teaching Projections in Classroom with QGIS - workshop
**Time:** 25 July 2025 [11H00 UTC](https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?year=2025&month=07&day=25&hour=10&min=00&sec=00&msg=QGISOpenDay-session1 "click this link to find out the time in your local time zone").
**Duration:** +/- 60 min
**Venue:** [YouTube Link](), [Jitsi link]()
**Presenters:** [Vedran Stojnović](https://www.linkedin.com/in/phidrho/)
**Description:**
The workshop will demonstrate how to create a custom "globe" in the classroom with QGIS, helping students understand how map projections work.
